Why a Specialist Certification
Women’s bodies are cyclical, transitional, and adaptive. Training that addresses only one condition or life stage leaves critical gaps in understanding. This certification layers information across systems and stages, allowing movement professionals to recognize patterns, adapt programming, and teach safely in real-world settings.
Graduates move beyond rules and restrictions and develop the ability to respond to the body in front of them.
Course Description
The Pre & Postnatal Pilates Movement Specialist Certification is a comprehensive, layered program designed to educate movement professionals in supporting women through pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and the transitional continuum between the two using mat work and Pilates apparatus. This certification integrates the foundational courses with the pre and postnatal mat curriculum and adds the pilates equipment of Reformer and Cadillac into a cohesive methodology grounded in female anatomy, physiology, fascia, breath, and nervous system regulation.
Mat work establishes the foundation for observation, breath, nervous system regulation, and integration. Pilates equipment is then layered onto this foundation to provide graded support, resistance, feedback, and load—allowing strength and function to emerge without force.
This certification does not separate prenatal from postnatal work, nor mat from apparatus. It reflects the adaptive nature of the female body and trains professionals to apply the same principles intelligently as physiology, capacity, and needs change.
An Expertly Crafted, Layered Curriculum
This certification is intentionally structured so that each module deepens and refines the others. Foundational concepts are introduced early, revisited repeatedly, and applied across changing contexts, load, and life stage.
Core Foundational Threads (Woven Throughout All Modules)
Sensa Ball®
Rocking to Release®
Support Your Floor®
Pre & Postnatal Movement Theory
Movement theory provides the context for all practical application. Participants develop a clear understanding of:
- Female anatomical and hormonal changes during pregnancy and postpartum
- The influence of hormones on fascia, ligaments, coordination, and recovery
- Nervous system sensitivity, fatigue, and load tolerance
- Changing center of mass and postural strategy
- The difference between protection, adaptation, and unnecessary restriction
This theoretical foundation ensures that programming choices are informed, calm, and appropriate.
Pre & Postnatal Mat Movement
Mat work forms the core learning environment of the certification. Participants learn to apply layered principles through foundational and progressive mat sequences designed to:
- Support breath and nervous system regulation
- Encourage pelvic floor responsiveness rather than gripping
- Integrate the abdominal wall without force
- Improve mobility, coordination, and confidence
- Adapt movement as pregnancy progresses and postpartum recovery unfolds
Clear progressions and regressions allow movement professionals to meet women where they are, without rushing or fear.
Diastasis Recti Recovery
Frames the abdominal wall as part of a dynamic pressure and tension system rather than an isolated condition. Quiet breathing, thoracic organization, pelvic floor integration, and fascial adaptability are layered across mat and equipment, and across pregnancy and postpartum.
Pre & Postnatal Pilates Apparatus Integration
Pilates equipment is introduced as a supportive and adaptive environment, not as an escalation of difficulty.
Reformer for Pregnancy & Postpartum
Cadillac for Pregnancy & Postpartum
Across all apparatus, mat-based discernment remains the reference point.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this certification, participants will be able to:
- Understand female anatomy and physiology across pregnancy and postpartum
- Apply Sensa Ball® and Rocking to Release® to regulate the nervous system and support fascial health
- Integrate Support Your Floor® principles across mat and Pilates apparatus work
- Apply Diastasis Recti Recovery concepts safely and confidently
- Progress and regress exercises across Mat, Reformer and Cadillac
